Fiji and Big Day Out

Last week I went to Fiji the weather worked in our favour for the most part. We got really lucky. It rained for 3 weeks straight before we got there. While landing you could see the floods. On the main island people tied their cows to the train tracks so they wouldn't wonder off into the flood water. You could see a lot was destroyed... main islands get hit the hardest I forget why I read it somewhere... we got to our island luckily the boat was running that day if we were going further out we probably wouldn't have been able to go.

While there Stacy and I went scuba diving it was a little different from the GBR more untouched. Saw clown fish swam threw a tunnel.. swam threw schools of fish. We also got massages.

I finally got to drink out of a coconut! Found one on the ground and had one of the Fijians teach me how to open it and get the meat out.

We took off early because we felt that the bad weather was starting to come back plus the first hotel really sucked.... by the time we spent money on food and taxis better off to just go home.

Yesterday I went to Big Day Out in Sydney. It's a huge music fest kinda like Lollapalooza of Australia. It was sold out for months but one of our friends got a job selling merch and had a ticket to get rid of.

I really wanted to go to this one but didn't think I'd find a ticket. It's supposed to be the best of all the all day concerts they have.

As you can tell the last couple of weeks have been pretty expensive... the bank is starting to hurt gotta start saving again.

NYE Sydney

Here's a link to what went on last night.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7UbL4nfeJE
It was pretty crazy. Unfortunately I had to work... but I did get a chance to watch the fireworks. My view was somewhat good I saw the bridge from and angle view... couldn't really see a lot of that side stuff going on. The area I was near was packed. Everywhere was fully packed. 1.5 million people. The bridge part is the main section anyways. Honestly I think the best view would be from A) a really high apartment building B) on a boat or C) somewhere in the sky. Doesn't matter where you stand on land your not going to be able to see everything and how intense it is so I'm not too dissapointed. Also my camera battery died so I have one or two pictures of the event. Oh well... at least I wasn't wasted and will remember it.

We have our staff party on Sunday should be good. The other day I went to Bronte and Coogee beach with an Aussie friend. Afterwards we went to this fresh seafood place where you pick out whatever you want to eat fish wise and they cook it. Kind of like a market style. We got raw oysters they were really good.

Fiji in about two weeks and I think I've made a fair amount of cash back since I started working. Gotta head to bed now I'm opening tomorrow and the next couple of days. Traded so I don't have to work nights. Should be good.
nite.

No more hostels!

I now have a place in Edgecliff ( a suburb of Sydney) I moved in about a week ago. My place is super awesome. Things have been crazy. Just trying to get my life together... well the basics.. job, place, etc. Took my RSA on the weekend. It's so you can handle liqour.. it was really redundant since I already have my smart serve. Went out looking for jobs today I have a couple bar trials set up this week. If all goes well I should have a job this week.

Turns out we have a beach about 10 mins away walking distance. I don't really need to leave Edgecliff unless I want to go to work or use the internet and at the moment ours is working.

The other day the two Canadians I met at IEP and I went to the Pizza Hut buffet and brought zip locks with us. One of the guys goes on band tours all the time and taught me the ways of stealing pizza. I think I walked out with 3 pizza's worth. So I won't really have to buy groceries this week score! Ah good fun.

From Dec 5

Hey guys,

So I can't remember if I said this but my camera stopped working on me the other day.. so no more underwater photos ... boo! oh well. I went out the following day and bought at Canon it's so much better quality wise... I think I will be able to take some great shots in NZ with it. I took it out the other night when I went to a bar called Scary Canary and I'm liking what I see so far. If you wore a garbage bag (in any way you choose). There was a contest for the best way to use the bag and I won! =p Anyways I set up my bank account should be getting that card in a week from now. Next on the list is a job and a place.... some of the Contiki group is going to share a flat with me. At least I know I can trust my flat mates. We looked at one yesterday omg it smelled SO bad. Today we have a couple more ... it's pretty tough right now everyone is in Sydney for new years and xmas. But I have faith in us. I think I may end up in a bar for now. It's just easier and I'm going to Fiji for a week in January. Stacy and I booked it yesterday I'M SO EXCITED! We are going to Beachcomber island meals are included buffet style! It was expensive... but it's more expensive to go from home and stay in a resort. Beachcomber is a backpacker style party island. I think our room has like 100 people in it lol...what else... hmmmm I think I may go somewhere on the coast when I get back and live the beach life. It's silly to stay in one place I'm so much better off working when I need money. Plus I really want to surf again. I'm thinking Byron bay area it's about 12 hours away.anyways that's about it for now....bye!

The past month in Oz...

Hey guys,

Well the last month has been quite the adventure. I wish I would have had time sooner to do this but I'll point form it for ya...

-Started in Darwin
-Bought an aboriginal painting for cheap and went on a bush tucker tour
-Learned to throw a boomerang and play a didgeridoo
-Slept in a swag in the outback
-Swam in a thermal pool
-Swam in waterfalls
-Went to Uluru and walked around it took about 3 hours... it is massive
-Went to the great barrier reef and scuba dived... it was wild I also snorkeled
-Tried surfing it was great I totally want to go again and yes I stood on the board
-Saw a real koala, kangaroo, wallaby, a huge spider (hunter spider of all places in Sydney lol) , dolphin in the wild... i know there is more but can't remember at the moment Internet cafes suck.
-Went on a 2 day sailing trip to through the Whitsundays... it was absolutely beautiful... went to Whitehaven beach... one of the top 3 in the world. During this excursion I saw a massive sea turtle it was really cool... snorkeling here was so much better then in Cairns
-Went to Frasier Island
-Went to a Dracula dinner show it sounded corny but turned out to be a lot of fun!
-Saw the Sydney opera house which is a lot smaller then I thought I'd be in real life. Also went to the botanical gardens, art gallery, and aquarium.
-Today I took the fairy over to Manly beach spent the day with some Contiki friends it was very relaxing... I got a nice tan ;)

I'm sure I'm forgetting heaps of things but this is what came off the top of my head....

Hopefully this blog will answer what I've been up to.... I've been getting way too many e-mails and little time to answer them... if you have any other detailed questions e-mail me.

I am currently in Sydney living in a hostel... it's not as bad as I thought I'd be but I really need to find a place to live asap and a job... the sushi is so good here I've been eating that on the regular b/c it's so cheap! Also the shopping is amazing... it's so hard to control myself. I just don't have the room in my suitcase... I have a million pictures but they are currently not with me... I'll have to do a picture post sometime soon. My camera screen decided to stop working on me today... I'm pretty annoyed hopefully it's just water that will dry out. My cam is supposed to be waterproof.... =/

I plan on going to New Zealand and where ever else time and money allows me to go.

Until then...
-Jill
